Rebecca is the youngest female performer in the Imbala Jarjum group. She is from the Wambaya
people of North East Tennant Creek and also has the traditional links to the Yuggera people.
She is currently studying by correspondence to complete her high school certificate. She began
her dancing career at the age of 5 years and has been dancing ever since.
She plays a very important role in the choreography on the contemporary dance movements as she
is quite creative. Rebecca and her sister Sarah work as a team to collaboratively piece new
works together from studying different types of dance genres. Being so young she enjoys the
hip hop type beat to music and attends workshops to develop this, while her interest in ballet
and modern dance as well as traditional dance covers a broader spectrum than usual for someone
so young.
Her strong character and determination is noticed in her choreography as she always strives for
perfection in her presentation. She also has talents as an artist and does free hand sketching
and illustrations for children’s books which she hopes one day will be a paid profession. While
she enjoys sketching she is learning the keyboard and being creative with different hair styles
and designing in clothes for costumes.
There is a special bond with her sister, who gives her the motivation to continue doing the
things she does best. The love she has for music and dance will certainly be a pathway to
further her career opportunities.
